No more glass ceiling?
A colleague of mine sent me an article that declared the glass ceiling has cracked. I smirked.
Yes, I think there are more doors open for women in executive positions. Yet once they get there, they find themselves encased in concrete walls. They aren’t allowed to change the job to fit their strengths, ideals and dreams. They must morph into the role they are gifted.
In my research, I found that many high achieving fabulous women do not have their sites on an executive position unless it would give them the positive new challenges they need to keep them energized and feeling worthwhile. There are no glass ceilings for them. They create their own career paths based on their strengths, ideals and dreams. It’s a zig zag across many companies, not a ladder up one. It often ends up with them starting and running their own businesses.
Who’s loss is this? It’s not just the companies that lose this great source of talent. It’s the entire economy that is being suffocated by the old styles of management and career succession that still prevail. It’s time to not only let the women come to the table.
It’s time to invite women and men with bold new ideas, styles and dreams to break down the hierarchies and co-create corporate cultures that can compete in the world marketplace that is leaving us in the dust.
Please comment on this post and pass it on to get the energy for creation flowing.
